Ahead of our 10th SocialMedia.org Health Member Meeting, we’re going to be spotlighting our top Member Meeting All Stars — members who’ve attended the most Member Meetings during their time in the community.
To kick things off, we chatted with Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital Senior Communications Specialist, Sara Patterson, about her experience attending six SocialMedia.org Health Member Meetings over the past two years, and what keeps her coming back.
How would you describe your first SocialMedia.org Health Member Meeting?
The first meeting was insightful, valuable, short, and sweet.
What are some of the biggest insights or “aha” moments you’ve taken away from Member Meetings and applied to your program?
Joining the group really gave me a sense of validation — issues brought up in these meetings are unique in a hospital environment but shared among members. The level of trust in the group allows us to learn from each others’ successes as well as failures. The group has helped inform our choices when evaluating social tools. We have a support system to help us do the best job we can when sticky situations crop up. It’s also been really interesting to learn about other teams’ departmental structures, job titles, and responsibilities.
What are some of your favorite activities or memories from past Member Meetings?
Great meals with great people.
Why do you make attending Member Meetings a priority?
I come back from every meeting with action items that, over time, have helped shape not only our social strategy, but overall digital marketing tactics and goals. I’m also able to benchmark my team’s efforts against our peers in a really open, welcoming atmosphere.
What advice would you give to someone going to their first Member Meeting?
What are you struggling with right now? Bring that question to the group, and I bet you’ll walk away with a solution.

SocialMedia.org Health’s 10th Member Meeting is coming up on October 15-16 hosted at UC Davis Health, and it’s going to be one of our best meetings yet — in large part due to amazing social media leaders like Sara who not only bring incredible experience and insight to the conversations we have there, but warmth, generosity, and a healthy dose of fun.
We’re so grateful for our All Stars and all our members who continue to make every meeting so special and unbelievably valuable. They’re the reason this community has been thriving for years, and we can’t wait for what’s next.
